Joop’s Place is located in the heart of Durban within Morningside. This is the home of the highest quality steaks and has been a resident highspot for Durban dining since 1993. Don’t worry though if the meat focus puts you off as there are plenty of vegetarian options to pick from too. Joop’s place is amazing! The steaks are faultless, appetizers are outstanding, the wine list is deep and the Dutch themed interior is awesome. It’ has a homely feel with plenty of big screens around to catch the latest sports as you enjoy a glorious feast washed down with plenty of ice cold drinks. A wonderful asset to the city and a testament to the multicultural powerhouse of the Durban Vibe.

Their menu is amazing. The starters are outstanding and we totally recommend you try the Pepper Boerewors. That extra peppered seasoning gives these guys a real flavor to savor. For the mains, then it has to be a steak. They are all delicious and taste heavenly. For us steak connoisseurs, its carnivore heaven. Every mouthful is mouthwateringly tender, flavorful and always from an outstanding cut. If you need help, we suggest you try the Pepper Steak which seems to be a locals favorite.  There’s also a special that includes a 1.2 kg Tomahawk steak , a bottle of wine and a side dish. If you’re planning to come back a second time then don’t miss out on the delicious Rack of lamb.

If you’re in the mood for a real challenge, order the Joop’s legend 2.5 kg T-bone or take on a Shark Tank Legend Burger. They are both belly busters so be warned. For those looking for something a little different, we recommend the oxtail casserole with its exquisite rich brown gravy. Alternatively try the Lamb or Chicken and Prawn Curries that comes with amazing sides and fresh baked breads. If you’re a true steak lover, Joop’s Place has to be on your list of top restaurants to visit in Durban. Mandla and Jefrey are top-notch chefs,who have been expertly trained in the secret of searing of steaks by Oom Joop himself no less. 

Among the drinks, you can order some great wines from South African and overseas vineyards. They serve an amazing Irish coffee and have a scrumptious fresh juice selection. Their cocktails are also good, freshly mixed and totally authentic. They have a display window at the grill area, where you sit with your drinks. A chance to admire the talented chefs in action, as they sear to perfection while you watch the flames work their magic.
