OUR OPINION
Morningside, Durban
Nestled in the heart of Durban’s upmarket Florida Road since 1999, House of Curries has been the go-to destination for authentic Indian cuisine. Renowned for its diverse menu featuring a wide range of curry dishes, this restaurant brings the flavors of India to the bustling streets of Durban. It’s a wonderful addition to the cultural culinary landscape of Durban and represents the true meaning of the Durban Vibe when it comes to our food.
As avid lovers of authentic and delicious curries, we keep coming back to House of Curries for our fix. It’s one of the top restaurants in Durban, and for good reason.
The moment you step into House of Curries, you’re greeted by a bright and modern setting. The aroma of aromatic spices wafting from the kitchen is always a welcome sensation. The menu is a celebration of Durban curries, featuring chicken, lamb, beef, and vegetarian options, each bursting with rich flavors and cooked to perfection.
One of our absolute favorites is the lamb breyani. The perfectly cooked lamb, mixed with flavorful rice, lentils, and turmeric, is served in generous portions and accompanied by delicious dhal. One bite of their breyani and you’re transported straight to India—it’s that good!
But that’s not all. House of Curries is also a great spot for roti wraps in Durban. Whenever hunger strikes, we head over and indulge in their chips and cheese rotis. The portions are huge—the medium wraps are enough for two people. The lamb roti is tender and tasty, and they also offer delicious vegetarian options. Trust us, it’s worth it!
And who can forget the famous Durban bunny chow? Served with sambal and achar, this beloved local specialty perfectly captures the essence of Durban. We always make sure to order the prawn curry bunny—it’s a must every time we visit House of Curries. And let’s not forget about their delicious samosas. Our favorite? The chicken samosas, without a doubt.
While you’re in the area, don’t miss out on exploring some of Durban’s top attractions. Take a stroll along the beautiful Durban beachfront, visit the iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium, or immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of the Victoria Street Market. With so much to see and do nearby, a visit to House of Curries is the perfect way to round off a day of exploring Durban’s rich cultural heritage. We love this place and if you’re visiting a Durban attraction nearby, it’s a must visit.
Our final thoughts? Whether you’re a curry aficionado or exploring Indian cuisine for the first time, House of Curries offers a dining experience that celebrates the rich culinary heritage of Durban. Make sure to add it to your list of must-visit restaurants while in Durban.
