For us it’s another of those fusion cuisine delights that permeate Durban. It’s one of those places that embeds itself into the Durban Vibe we all love and adds to the heartbeat of what makes Durban so unique. If you’re an enthusiast of Italian, Greek or Japanese food, Grimaldi’s Cucina is one of the best restaurants in Durban (and probably in Africa) where this fusion cuisine thrives.

At the entrance you’ll be enthralled by the  elegant decor that reflect both Italian and Japanese cultural influences. The setting is simply stunning, overlooking the ocean. with flowers and vines gracefully draping from the ceiling. The interior exudes a modern and chic ambience, offering perfect photo opportunities for those who love to post. For us, we just sit, eat and chill here as we soak up the ambiance.

As for the menu, it showcases a diverse array of offerings, ranging from classic Italian dishes like pasta, risotto and wood-fired pizzas to an impressive selection of Sushi rolls, like sashimi and nigiri.

Each dish is thoughtfully crafted with high quality ingredients and meticulous attention to detail, ensuring a memorable culinary experience. For starters we recommend the Mezze Platter, Pork Rotolini or Salmon Carpaccio. Our personal favorites are the Baked Prawn Padella, the Fresh Black Mussels with their secret oh so creamy sauce, and Salmon & Avocado 

Next up are the delicious mains with a choice of pollo, meat and fish – as well as platters, combos and an extensive range of signature pasta dishes. We recommend their signature spaghetti carbonara which is so delicious and super creamy. If you’re craving a unique Italian flavor you should definitely try the osso buco. It is our favorite dish. The lamb shanks are tender and delicious. 

Sushi enthusiasts can indulge in innovative creations like the spicy tuna rolls, dragon rolls or nigiri featuring fresh, expertly sliced fish. We always go for the half-price sushi  special that runs from 12 pm- 6:30 pm, Monday to Saturday. Try the classic California rolls with prawns  and the maki rolls with avocado and salmon, very delicious choices! They offer a well curated wine list featuring Italian varietals. We love their specialty cocktails, featuring gin and fresh berries, the cocktails are not only visually appealing but also incredibly tasty and the half price makes it even more worthwhile.
