Discovering Coffee Cup Cafe in Durban North

Tucked away in the heart of Durban North, Coffee Cup Cafe is a secret hidden gem that offers great food, amazing coffee and low prices. This charming café encapsulates the essence of the Durban Vibe, a blend of cultural fusion and creativity. From the moment we step in, the welcoming atmosphere and the aroma of freshly brewed coffee create a perfect setting for our gatherings. The seating is outdoor and limited but the company is great. Pierre the owner always greets you with his warm smile and welcomes you into his family with true Durbanite hospitality.

If you’re on a budget then this place is both affordable and has great food. To start our day we always get their  barista-style cappuccino, crafted to perfection with rich, creamy froth and a robust espresso base. The balance of flavours is a testament to the skills of the baristas here, making it a must-try for any coffee aficionado. This delightful beverage is an integral part of the Durban Vibe, embodying the city’s dedication to high-quality, creative cuisine.

Breakfast at Coffee Cup Cafe is a treat, especially with their hearty English Breakfast. Featuring two perfectly cooked eggs, crispy bacon, juicy tomatoes, and caramelised onions, all accompanied by two slices of toast with butter, this meal is a classic start to the day. The ingredients are fresh, and the portion size is generous, ensuring you start your day with a satisfying and delicious meal. We love this as a perfect start to every morning.

For lunch, the burger and chips offer a fantastic choice. Whether you prefer chicken or beef, each burger is served on a soft bun with a fresh salad and home-style chips. At an affordable price of R50, it’s an unbeatable deal. The home-style chips are a standout, with a perfect crunch that complements the juicy, well-seasoned burger. This dish highlights the cafe’s commitment to providing quality food at great value, a characteristic of the best restaurants in Durban.

Another lunch favourite is the chicken curry, which can be served with rice or roti. The curry is rich and aromatic, with tender chicken pieces that melt in your mouth. The option to pair it with either rice or roti adds a personal touch, catering to different preferences and enhancing the overall dining experience. This dish is a wonderful representation of Durban’s culinary diversity, an essential part of the Durban Vibe. Also check out the “BIG AL”. Bacon cheese tomato onion jalapeno and double yolk egg served as a toasted sandwich. Its heaven!

No meal is complete without dessert, and the Chocolate Brownies are simply divine. Moist and rich, with a luscious chocolate flavour that is complemented by the crunch of the nut topping, this cake is the perfect end to a meal. It’s a favourite among our group, often prompting us to take an extra slice home.

Within 500 metres of the cafe, you can explore several attractions. Have you visited the Japanese Gardens or the vibrant Kensington Square Shopping Centre? These spots offer a perfect way to round off a delightful meal at Coffee Cup Cafe. The proximity to such attractions makes it a convenient stop for both locals and tourists looking to experience the best restaurants in Durban.

So our final thoughts? Coffee Cup Cafe in Durban North is a true reflection of the Durban Vibe. Its delicious food, warm ambiance, friendly owner and proximity to local attractions make it a top choice for anyone seeking a memorable dining experience. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, this café is a must-visit.
