Cargo Hold Restaurant, situated within the Phantom Ship at the uShaka Marine World in Durban. It offers a one-of-a-kind dining experience in a setting that replicates the interior of a 1920s cargo ship. The Phantom Ship is masterfully incorporated into the aquarium and water park, with much of the famous aquarium lying beneath it.

Naturally, the Cargo Hold Restaurant has a nautical theme and is festooned with marine artifacts from a bygone era. The restaurant itself has two levels and you can see huge sharks swimming in a vast tank which forms one of the restaurant’s walls. 

Once you have taken your eyes off the view, it’s time to settle down and think about the food! They have an extensive menu offering dishes from around the world and with fresh seafood from the Indian Ocean. As you pursue the menu you can learn  more about the legend of the phantom ship and the spooky tales surrounding it. Definitely one of the best restaurants in Durban with varied and tempting menu.

They have the most scrumptious seafood platters. Mains include dishes like spiced duck breast, lamb shank and pork belly etc. Do try the fish of the day, it’s the perfect portion size and the fish is fresh, firm and flavorful. The steaks are basted with the chef’s signature marinade and are perfectly flame grilled to your satisfaction.

They have just two vegetarian meals available that are a halloumi cheese starter and a mushroom risotto. Their delectable dessert menu includes caramel apple créme brūlée and the restaurant’s famous soft-centered chocolate  ‘volcano’. It’s goey, chocolatey and oh so decadent – a must try!

The shark tank is captivating, so enjoy your food while sharks drift right by your table and sand sharks and stir up the sandy bottom. We love this place and if you’re visiting a Durban attraction nearby, it’s a must visit.
