Perfectly located in the heart of Durban on Florida Road, Butcher Boys in Morningside has become a staple for steak enthusiasts and food connoisseurs alike. Founded in November 1999 by the well-aged duo Alan Lazarus and Derryck Myers, this iconic eatery embodies years of exceptional restaurant experience, making it one of the best restaurants in Durban. Each visit is more than just a meal; it’s an exploration of the vibrant Durban Vibe. It’s a carnivore’s heaven, and as one of our favourite eating houses, we can’t wait to get our teeth into one of their mouth watering steaks. 

What is good on their menu? Well everything basically. We often favour the Beef Bruschetta as a starter, where pulled beef seasoned with black pepper and mustard melds beautifully with parmesan cheese and caramelised onions, all atop toasted bruschetta. 

For a main course we’d suggest any of the steaks. Our favourite is the Aged Prime Rib which offers a full-flavoured, marbled delight served on the bone, paired with sides like chips, baked potato, or mielie pap. If you’re with friends, the Shisa Nyama Platter for two absolutely rocks. As a South African classic, is a hearty spread of sirloin, boerewors, pork ribs, buffalo wings, and lamb chops, accompanied by chakalaka relish. For our vegetarian friends, the Butcher Boys Veggie Bake is a delightful medley of roasted butternut, grilled baby marrow, sautéed mushrooms, and cherry tomatoes, baked with cheese sauce and topped with crispy onion rings. To conclude our meal we tend to slide into the Chocolate Lava Cake, oozing with rich, warm dark chocolate and served with vanilla ice cream, is an indulgent treat, well worth the trip to the gym for the entire weekend to burn it off.
